THERE OWN WALK WITH CHRIST.
INTRO: I
want to look at something a little different this morning. Meaning I want to
take a broader look at the aspect of the Lord’s journey that He took
during His ministry on Earth. I recently made a statement this week that each
of us has our own specific course that we are to travel. And in the journey we
will fulfill or not fulfill the purpose and work that God has set before us.
Paul said “I
have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept
the faith:” Each one of us has our own course that God has laid before us
to fulfill, as I said, for His glory. Jesus did just that. And because of that
all that Jesus did we can learn from it.
I have stated before that much can
be learned spiritually from the Scriptures by looking at specific places in the
Scripture. For instance I have said before that Christ, according to the
Scriptures, had to perform His first miracle in Cana of Galilee. If that be the
case then we can conclude as well that not only the course we travel is
important, but also the place on that course we are on. I want to if we can
look more closely at 7 specific places mentioned in the course or journey of Jesus
ministry that I believe are very significant and will reveal to us much in
regards to Jesus Love for us and example to us. With that being said I want to
preach on this thought this morning....”THE JOURNEY OF JESUS” Let’s briefly this morning Journey
with Jesus through the Scriptures and see what we can learn from the
“course” that He took and the example He left behind for us.
Stopping first at Galilee.....
I.
GALILEE – Various
(His Journey to the Place of PRESENTATION)
Note: I do realize that Jesus was not
Born in Galilee, nor is this the first place that He made important in His
ministry; however He did formally begin His Presentation of Himself in various
ways in Galilee.
A.
FOR CONFORMITY (His Baptism) Mar 1:9 And it came to pass
in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of
John in
Mt3:13-17 Then
cometh Jesus from Galilee to
Note:
Jordan River bordered Galilee.
B.
FOR CONFIRMATION (His Beginning)Jn2:11“This
beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his
glory; and his disciples believed on him”
C.
FOR COVERAGE (His Burden) Mt 4:23 “And Jesus
went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the
gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of
disease among the people.”
Facts: It is estimated at time of Christ
2000 sq/m belonged to Galilee. Approx 204 cities with a pop of 2-3 mill. He
spent the majority of His ministry in Galilee.
D.
FOR COLLECTION (His Brethren) Mt 4:18 “And Jesus,
walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew
his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.”
Appl: Let me ask you a question. Have
you ever taken the time to examine your course...to see if it is yielding what
Jesus would have you to yield? Does the course your on cause you to... 1.
Conform to His plan, 2. Confirm His working in your life, 3. Coverage that
encompasses many individuals and 4. Collection of “disciples” along
the way?
Note: What can we learn from the
II.
GENNESARET – Mt14:34 Mk6:53
(His Journey to the Place of
PERFORMANCE)
Mk
6:53 And when they had passed over, they came into the
Note: Gennesaret is mentioned 3 times
in the scriptures, twice as the land of and a 3rd time as the
I also think it important to note by way of application
that after you present yourself as a follower of Christ...the next thing people
want to see is you Perform it!
2Co
8:11 Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was
a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that
which ye have.
Phi
1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a
good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
Rom
12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye
present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is
your reasonable service. 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye
transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is
that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Note: His
journey to the Place of Performance was...
A.
TO HELP vs54 “And when they were come out
of the ship, straightway they knew him,
Note: By Performing Jesus helped those
disciples that were following him to KNOW Him.
B.
TO HEAL vs56 “And whithersoever he entered,
into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and
besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and
as many as touched him were made whole.
C.
TO HARVEST vs55 “And ran through that whole
region round about, and began to carry about in beds those that were sick,
where they heard he was.”
Appl: Does the journey your on cause
you to Perform that which is present in your life. If not it is possible you
may never have been to
III.
GETHSEMANE –
Mt26:36 Mk14:32
(His Journey to the Place of
PRAYER)
Mt
26:36 Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane,
and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.
Note: Now I realize that prayer was an everyday
vital aspect of Jesus life. I don’t want you to think that it was a one
time event and he only did it in The Garden of Gethsemane. He always was in
prayer as should we be; however on His journey to Gethsemane we can observe and
learn some vital things for ourselves. His
Journey to Gethsemane the Place of Prayer was....
A.
FOR ENERGY vs38 “Then saith he unto them, My soul is
exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me. 39 And
he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my
Father, if it be possible...”
B.
FOR EXHORTATION vs39b “let this cup pass from me: nevertheless
not as I will, but as thou wilt.”
C.
FOR EXAMPLE vs37 “And he took with him Peter
and the two sons of Zebedee.... vs38b .....tarry ye here, and watch with
me.”
D.
FOR EXPECTATION vs45 “Then cometh he to his disciples, and
saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour
is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.”
Appl: When it comes to the Journey your
on....does it mirror Christ’s example He set for us? Do you Pray for
Energy, for Exhortation in accepting the will of God, to set an Example for
others that “men ought always to pray and faint not” as well as
Expecting the Lord to answer your petitions according to His will?
IV.
GABBATHA –
Jn19:13
(His Journey to the Place of PRONOUNCEMENT)
Joh
19:13 When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and
sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in
the Hebrew, Gabbatha.
A.
PRONOUNCED HIS SINLESSNESS
Jn
19:6 When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried
out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them,
Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him.
B.
PRONOUNCED HIS SOVEREIGNTY
Jn 19:11 Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at
all against me, except it were given thee from above:
Jn 19:14b Behold your King!
C.
PRONOUNCED HIS SYMPATHY
Jn
10:15-18 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the
Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. 10:16 And other sheep I
have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear
my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. 10:17 Therefore
doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.
10:18 No man taketh it from
me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power
to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.
Appl: When we Journey to the Gabbatha in
our own life we Pronounce to others all that He pronounced to the world that
day. Have you journeyed to Gabbatha?
V.
(His Journey to the Place of
PAYMENT)
Note: Now I realize that all the places
Jesus journeyed to and thru were significant; however this is the Place that He
came to Earth to visit emphatically.
A.
WAS A FULFILLMENT OF SCRIPTURE
Mt 27:35 And they crucified him, and parted his garments,
casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet,
They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.
B.
WAS A FINALITY OF SERVICE
Jn 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar,
he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
C.
WAS A FORGIVENESS OF SINS
Lk 23:34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them;
for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
Lk
23:43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou
be with me in paradise.
D.
WAS A FORSHADOW OF SAINTS
Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I
live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in
the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave
himself for me. Requirement
E.
WAS A FUNDAMENTAL OF SALVATION
Rom 10:9-11 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the
Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the
dead, thou shalt be saved. 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto
righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 10:11 For
the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
Appl: Listen many people in society
take short cuts in there journeys. I am glad Jesus decided not to be like man
and take a short cut around
VI.
GRAVE – Mt27:60
Tomb/Grave
(His Journey to the Place of PROOF)
Mt 27:60 And laid it in his own new tomb, which he
had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the
sepulchre, and departed.
A.
HE PROVED HIS MINISTRY
Jn 2:19-22 Jesus answered and said unto
them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. 2:20 Then said
the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear
it up in three days? 2:21 But he spake of the temple of his body. 2:22 When
therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said
this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had
said.
B.
HE PROVED HIS MOTIVES
Jn 11:25-26
Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth
in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: 11:26 And whosoever
liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
HE
PROVED HIS MASTERY (total control over somebody or something)
Jn 10:18 No man taketh it from me,
but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power
to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.
C.
HE PROVED HIS MAJESTY (supreme authority and power) Heb 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory,
and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of
his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right
hand of the Majesty on high;
Note: All that we possess and hope for
and trust in was PROVED at Jesus journey from the Grave to His
Appl: Let me just ask you this
question. When it is all said and done will the proof of what you trusted in on
your Journey be demonstrated at your grave or as well at the Rapture of the
Church? Or will there be no proof for you at the Grave because you never
journeyed with Jesus to
VII.
GLORY – Lk24:26
(His Journey to the Place of
PROMINENCE)
Lk
24:26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into
his glory?
A.
DUE TO THE COMPLETION OF HIS TASK
Lk
24:24-26 And certain of them which were with us went to
the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him
they saw not. 24:25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to
believe all that the prophets have spoken: 24:26 Ought not Christ to have
suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
B.
DUE TO THE CONFIRMATION OF HIS TESTIMONY
Lk
24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto
them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
C.
DUE TO THE CONSTRUCTION OF HIS TABERNACLE
Rev
21:1-5 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the
first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 21:2 And I John saw
the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a
bride adorned for her husband. 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of
heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will
dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with
them, and be their God. 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from
their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying,
neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
21:5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new.
And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
D.
DUE TO THE COMING OF HIS BRIDE
Rev
21:7-9 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God,
and he shall be my son. 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the
abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and
all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and
brimstone: which is the second death. 21:9 And there came unto me one of the
seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and
talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's
wife.

with Jesus at the end of the road is that
